About

Florian Aldehoff-Zeidler runs Three Backticks.

He has built and secured infrastructure since 2014: for a human rights organisation in Colombia, for a biogas utility, for a bootstrapped engineering firm, and for a biotech company that took a vaccine candidate into humans in six months. Since 2024 the focus has been on software that uses language models to act on its own.

01Background

Why agent security.

Cybersecurity is the first field where offensive AI capabilities outstrip the capacity of human operators to respond. We are at a critical moment where automated code review, security analysis, monitoring and incident response are no longer optional.

02Track record

Previous work.

  1. Alvea IT and automation at a biotech startup

Alvea developed a COVID-19 vaccine for low- and middle-income countries and dosed its first candidate in humans 174 days after the company was founded. Florian was responsible for IT. He evaluated and integrated the software the lab and its vendors needed, automated internal processes such as NDA signing, managed the IT budget and procurement, and kept the systems running while the company grew.

  2. ESTATIKA Infrastructure for a new structural engineering firm

ESTATIKA started without outside capital in an office with an 8 Mbit DSL line, so Florian ran the company on its own servers. Nextcloud and ERPNext were hosted at Hetzner and reached through Wireguard tunnels; Proxmox on site provided staging and development machines. Every host, including the Windows clients, was configured by Ansible, and a Rundeck instance let colleagues without a technical background redeploy what they needed. The whole company was defined as code. Because data never left hardware the firm controlled, GDPR compliance was straightforward.

  3. Klimakönner Second employee at an energy startup

The company sold biogas to households and had to calculate fees for every municipality and street in Germany. The spreadsheet that did this ran for seven hours. Florian's reimplementation in Go ran in minutes, and a React website he built showed customers their current price. He then wrote a contract management system in Ruby on Rails that predicted each customer's consumption from weather data, which made cash flow forecasts reliable enough to plan on. The company was among the fifty fastest-growing startups in Germany in 2018 and was later sold to a larger competitor.

  4. Peace Brigades International Accompanying human rights defenders in Colombia

Florian worked in the field with Peace Brigades International, physically accompanying threatened human rights defenders in rural Colombia, often in regions with no functioning state presence. He wrote the weekly security analyses that decided whether an accompaniment could go ahead: whether the presence of international observers would raise the cost of an attack enough to deter it. The defenders and PBI itself were under surveillance, so he also rebuilt the organisation's IT with encrypted Linux machines in place of Windows, a VPN between the offices, and rehearsed procedures for police raids, and gave workshops that taught partner organisations to encrypt their disks and their communications.
